The 1oz silver proof coin depicts the landing of New Zealand troops on the Gallipoli peninsula on 25 April 1915, at a beach that would later become known as Anzac Cove. Approximately 12,000 New Zealanders would arrive alongside their Australian neighbours to fight in an ambitious but unsuccessful campaign. In the foreground, a New Zealand soldier carries a wounded Australian soldier to safety, highlighting that through the hardship of the Gallipoli campaign, the Anzac spirit was born and continues to this day.
