The Holy Father has chosen the family as the central theme of the Synod of Bishops in 2015, since the family is the vital unit of society and therefore should be a priority concern for the ecclesial community to whom the Lord entrusted the mission of preaching the Gospel of Christ to every creature. The Philatelic and Numismatic office is celebrating this event with an extraordinary issue of a 5 euro silver coin. The obverse side features the profile of the Holy Father; on the reverse side artist Daniela Longo reproduces the fresco of the kiss of Joachim and Anne, the masterpiece by Giotto in the Scrovegni Chapel in Padua.
