The year 2016 marks the fifth centenary of the death of Hieronymus van Aken Bosch, one of the world’s most fascinating and creative painters. Thanks to Felipe II’s interest in Bosch, Spain boasts the finest collection of original paintings by the artist. Museo del Prado is home to six of his works, including the famous triptych, The Garden of Earthly Delights, his most complex and enigmatic creation. In addition, this year, the museum has organised a comprehensive programme of activities around Bosch’s work.
